Engagement Letter

Are there any free samples available for bookkeeping engagement letters and representation letters?
Should a bookkeeper have their lawyer review or draw up the letters?
Hi Glenda,
Great questions.
If you google engagement letters, you will find sites that offer free or sample engagement letters. You can also do the same with management representation letters.
I know if you google "engagement letters + Intuit", articles and samples pop up.
Some of the bookkeeping associations in Canada and the U.S. offer sample templates as part of their membership benefits, and professional tax programs often have sample templates that can be customized.
It's always a good idea to have a lawyer review any contract you sign. The Canadian Bar Association has an excellent article on their sight titled
How to Write an Engagement Letter: Get It In Writing to Avoid Problems Later. It is written from the perspective of a law practice but you can still glean great information from it.
It is very important to lay out
what responsibilities the client has, and what responsibilities the bookkeeper and/or accountant has.
